DR SUSIE RUSSAK
Changing of the guard: A big thank you to Dr. Orly Haim for eight years of dedicated service to the English department.
In October, I will begin the daunting task of trying to step into the monumental, yet simultaneously dainty, shoes of our one and only – Dr. Orly Haim.
Orly has been the head of our English department for the past eight years. Her contributions to the growth and development of the department can be seen in so many places: from the number of students and their diverse backgrounds, to the scholarship programs, the yearly student conference, the innovative courses and unique programs, the extra activities for students and staff – just to name a few.
How does one begin to summarize the incredible contributions that our special Dr. Orly Haim has made to the department over the past eight years?
Orly has dedicated her heart and soul to our department, spending endless hours in her office and at her computer at home answering our mails, grading papers, writing reports, scheming as to how to improve our program, forever worrying about the welfare of each and every student and each and every staff member. And all the while she has maintained her beauty, her integrity, making each of us feel special and loved.
In the field and in the classroom, Orly has left an indelible mark on the face of English teacher training – from digital books in elementary school, to multi-lingual, multi-cultural research in the field with her students, Orly has ignited interest in generations of our students. Orly has pushed each one of us to be as good as we possibly can, to try a little harder, to be a little better, to give a little more, and always with kindness, understanding and love.
Dear Sweet Orly, There are not enough words to thank you for your hard work and loving dedication to the department and to all of us. On behalf of the staff and student body, I embrace you in a loving hug, and wish you health, happiness, quality time with your amazing family, time to pursue your research interests and publish papers that we all can read and learn from. But do not go too far away, because I am sure I will need your help and advice.
In closing, our dear Orly, you have taught us to always give ‘gifts’ – so here are 26 gifts that describe you:
